Announcement of NAPA AUTOPRO scholarship recipients

10 student mechanics earned a $1,000 scholarship to support their future education

Montréal, October 3, 2017 – At the most recent NAPA AUTOPRO conference held in Mont-Tremblant on September 15 and 16, the names of the 10 NAPA AUTOPRO scholarship recipients were announced.

Selected by a panel of industry experts from a video explaining why they want to be mechanics, the recipients were invited to take part in the conference in order to get a feel for how the industry runs and to make contacts.

The 10 recipients are:

  • Jolita Ashford, West Island Career Center
  • Mathieu Beauchamps, Centre Daniel-Johnson
  • Emilie Di Paolo, Compétence 2000
  • Joshua Hoyte, West Island Career Center
  • Jean-François Lévesque, Compétence 2000
  • Samuel Philibert, Compétence 2000
  • Jean-François Tremblay-Dubé, Centre Daniel-Johnson
  • Jake Veinotte, West Island Career Center
  • Mike Verna, West Island Career Center
  • Nicolas Vigeant, West Island Career Center

“It’s very encouraging to see young people so motivated to begin a career as an auto mechanic, said Alain Primeau, Regional Vice President of NAPA for Québec. The conference-goers showed their great appreciation with an ovation as the scholarships were awarded. It was one of the high points of the conference.”

For his own part, André Couture, Director of the NAPA AUTOPRO banner for the Québec region, went out of his way to note the growing number of women in training programs. “This is a trend that’s been observed for several years, and I believe that it brings a new dimension to mechanics. The profession is changing, and is no longer a solely male space. The two women among our recipients have demonstrated great motivation with respect to their training program, which gives hope that they will have great careers.”

The NAPA AUTOPRO scholarship is meant to encourage young people to continue their mechanical engineering studies to expand the pool of qualified technicians who can meet the recruitment needs of mechanic’s shops. A selection committee was set up to choose recipients for the 2017 edition. The committee was made up of Serge Pelletier, former director of the NAPA AUTOPRO banner, Pierre Beaudoin, former technical director of CAA-Québec, and Roger Goudreau, CEO of AIA Québec.

For the year 2017, the recipients were chosen from among students in the training program given by the Comité Éducation Travail en Équipement Motorisé du Montréal Métropolitain (CÉTÉMMM). In 2018, the scholarship program will be expanded to all of Québec.
